Popular third-party VPN service, Private Internet Access (PIA), has just recently announced that it will be increasing its subscription price. This marks the first time in 9 years that PIA will increase their price which has always been described by many reviewers and users as one of the more affordable ones in the market. According to a post on their official website, the reason for the price increase is for them to continue providing users with more new features without compromising their privacy or security.
When Does It Take Effect and What Happens to Current Subscriptions?
The price increase will take effect no earlier than March 18, 2019, and will affect all subscription lengths. Customers who have active subscriptions and do not wish to upgrade will have their accounts grandfathered into their existing subscription price. What this means is their accounts will not be affected by the price increase unless they decide to renew or terminate it on or after March 18th. Remember that as long as the account remains active, it will not increase in price.
Who is Eligible for the Device Limit Increase?
All subscription lengths will be eligible for the device limit increase. The new limit now allows users to connect up to 10 devices all at once regardless of whether they upgrade to the new 2-year deal or not.
How Can Users Upgrade Their Subscriptions?
In order to upgrade an account, users will need to login to the control panel of their “My Account” page. From there, users can choose the option to upgrade their account. Note that upgrading your account will automatically change its subscription price to the increased amount.
The upgrade takes place immediately, and PIA’s system automatically prorates the remaining balance of the previous account to the new $83.87 prices. This is contrary to what others might think of how the upgrade will only take effect once the current account ends. PIA has confirmed that this was a miscommunication in the wording of the emails that they sent to their users regarding the price increase.
Why Does the Renewal Date Get Changed?
Users who upgrade their accounts to either the yearly or 2-year subscription will have their renewal dates changed. This is because PIA’s system treats the upgrade as a new transaction and restarts each account from scratch on the date when the upgrade was made.
Why is PayPal Account Not Upgrading to the New 3-year Deal?PayPal has recently made upgrades to their payment processor and are now using a system called “Braintree.” Users who have had their subscriptions for a while now are more than likely using PayPal’s legacy processor. This means they will be unable to take advantage of PIA’s new promotion unless they create a new account.
